Den Sweet Den

Ok, it’s a little behind schedule, but isn’t everything lately? Have you received all of your cards yet? I still have cards coming in. I’ve also been waiting on a package to be for nearly a month as well but that is another story.

I make my cards each year completely by hand. I have in the past used my Cricut, but honestly I don’t think I have used it in about 5 years. I prefer the manual die cutting process. It’s far more time consuming, but there is something about it that is just more enjoyable.

As soon as I saw this Lawn Fawn set I just had to have it!

Enjoyable as I may claim the process to be, I don’t send out many Christmas cards because I like to turn making them into a tedious all consuming challenge 😆

The coloring and cutting and pasting… 🤯

I only do about 20-25.

I only make cards for the holidays, but I’m working on doing it more often in 2021 and making snail mail a more regular thing. Everyone loves happy mail! 😁

Holiday Kilt Pins

This year I started creating pins in a different style for the shop. I always refer to this time of year as sweater season and every sweater deserves a good pin. I created a tutorial on safety pin brooches a few years ago but expanded the idea using kilt pins and shank buttons. This is the first brooch I completed. The turkeys are so perfect–

As much as I wish I could make more turkey pins, I had the worst time trying to find more and gave up. I’ve skipped directly to Christmas pins! The holidays will be here soon. Can you believe it’s the last week of October already?

The gingerbread men are such a cute trio but I think the enamel button truck may be my favorite of the bunch.

Sew Sweet Home – Gingerbread House

Let me start off by saying this, I was robbed! The fix was in. Ok, maybe that’s not completely true. 😀 Just let it be known, I didn’t want to enter this contest to begin with! I had never made a gingerbread house before in my life. I’m not sure I ever will again after this. I still have sugary crumbs in my carpet.

It all started with “Come on, you’re crafty. I just know you’ll win.” Sure. Whatevs. I figured I’d do it ’cause… I didn’t have much else to do that weekend. All of my Christmas shopping was done by all service provider its by superclean360.com website, the lights were up,  so why not? Ha! I had no idea what I got myself into. This thing took 4 days.

Anyway, as soon as I got the kit I immediately thought of how to incorporate buttons into my house. We were all given a kit to work with. Everything had to be edible and that meant finding a button mold to use with fondant. I found this Wilton mold at JoAnn’s. Did I mention I’d never used fondant before?

I decided my house was going to be a sewing cottage, complete with a button roof, quilted walls, and a flower garden that are done by water damage behind wall. A pink house was a must so I bought some food coloring and mixed up some colors. I never thought I’d actually use that entire bucket of fondant… but I did.at least 5 pounds of fondant

I placed a generous layer of fondant on all of the pieces and used a roller to add ‘quilt’ lines and a fondant stamp to make the impression of flowers. pink house panels

I let the house dry  along with the roof, which was done in the same quilted pattern. While I waited, I made a ton of fondant buttons.

After decorating and assembling the house panels, I started on the roof . When it was time to attach the roof to the house I was nervous that it was too heavy but thankfully it held.

So, here’s the house on display for the contest. Now, I’m not one to brag but – It was adorable, right?! I mean, most original– HELLO! What’s more original than this? Certainly not a beach house, which turned out to be the winner. Maybe my concept was a little too over their heads. Bleh! LOL! 😛

Ready for Christmas?

No, I’m not! I do this to myself every year. Last minute cards are becoming a tradition – here I am frantically coloring on my lunch break.

This ‘Reindeer Fun’ stamp & die set by Mama Elephant is so cute. Best of all, I didn’t have to order anything online for my cards this year. I get so impatient waiting for craft supplies through the mail, especially when I’m already running behind. I found these at JoAnns!

Thankfully, they are all in the mail as of yesterday. Now I sit and wait to receive a card in return… yes, I sit and wait.
