Stamped Canvas Art with Buttons

It has been a while since I’ve made one of these portraits. Probably at least a year or so.  All of the others sold last year so I felt that was a good enough excuse to make some more.

It took forever to remember how to use Adobe Premiere to edit this. I condensed this down from several hours of work. Hope you enjoy the vid.

Ready for Christmas?

No, I’m not! I do this to myself every year. Last minute cards are becoming a tradition – here I am frantically coloring on my lunch break.

This ‘Reindeer Fun’ stamp & die set by Mama Elephant is so cute. Best of all, I didn’t have to order anything online for my cards this year. I get so impatient waiting for craft supplies through the mail, especially when I’m already running behind. I found these at JoAnns!

Thankfully, they are all in the mail as of yesterday. Now I sit and wait to receive a card in return… yes, I sit and wait.

Planner Girl Canvas Art

I dont know why, but I was really intrigued by these 4X12 canvases. I dont even paint. Well, I haven’t painted in years.

I hadn’t used watercolors since I was in an art class in middle school but it seemed to be a much easier option than trying to squeeze acrylic paint out of the old bottles I had sitting around. Actually, I think I loaned my paints to my mom, so I didnt even have any (I may have some, I didnt even bother to look).

I found these pretty metallic paints at JoAnns. See how grungy textured and fancy looking my background is? *Brag*

My idea came from the sight of planner doll stamps on sale at Michaels. It turned out they actually weren’t on sale, they just left the sign up for a day too long. And then the cashier wouldn’t give me the discount!! So... This is an older stamp that I already had and if you watched my bookmark tutorial vid, you’ve seen me use it before. At the time I made this I was also working on my design project for Buttons Galore &  More so I had this color palette of brown and green very much ingrained in my head.

I stamped the image on cardstock and glued it to the canvas. I used a scrap piece of lacy ribbon, embroidery thread,  buttons and beads to embellish.

Love it!

Button Art

Trying out some new things and for the first time, I actually purchased black buttons! *gasp*

I have been wanting to do some girly hair portraits for a while so I found the right combination of supplies and felt encouraged to do it again on canvas as I had originally envisioned.I pretty much realized right away I had purchased my canvas a bit too big. And you know I’m… let’s call it frugal. I bought the 10 pack with a 50% off coupon and really got myself worked up over what to do about my mistake.

Of course, it meant another trip to the craft store! I thought maybe some watercolors could fix my situation.

I layered the background with several layers pinks and purples and embellished the bottom with lace,  sequins, beads, and a fabric scrap stamped with the phrase ‘BeYou’. I purchased the stamp with this project in mind. I thought it was perfect.

So as Bob Ross said, “there are no mistakes, just happy accidents” or something like that?!

Planner Cover Project

Hey! I just uploaded my very first video to youtube.

In the video I show how I used my Julie Nutting planner doll cling stamps to make a new cover for my 2017 planner.

I was super nervous, so please be patient with my narrating skills 🙂 If you like the video and think you’d like to see more of my posts (and I’m sure you do), please subscribe!
